Healthcare in the U.S. compared to other industrialized and western countries is much more expensive.

Hospitals are profit centers accounting for 33% of health care cost
a birth here on average is $11,000 while in the Netherlands it is $7,000.
Healthcare workers in America are paid more than in other countries. An example is nurses make an average of $75,000 in the U.S. and $58,000 in the Netherlands.
Prices across the U.S. vary widely and there are no set prices like some other countries have.
Another reason is hospitals citing administrative costs which in the U.S. account for 8% of spending while in other countries it's 1%-3%.
